Forty three year old Amy Pearson is set to appear today in District Court at her trial for the November 2013 attempted murder of her estranged husband. The estranged husband, Robert Bessey was injured during a shooting between cars in traffic on the I15 freeway last fall. Amy Pearson's step-son and brother were allegedly solicited to carry out the murder-for-hire plot here in Las Vegas. The motive for the scheme was likely the $400,000 life insurance benefit and social security benefits that would have been Pearson's had the "hit" been successful. Reports also indicate that in June 2012, Pearson paid $50,000 to a family friend to distribute a arsenic-laced Red Bull energy drink to the victim. Thankfully, that plot was also unsuccessful. Pearson's trial is set to begin today at 10am in the Las Vegas District Court at the Regional Justice Center in Downtown Las Vegas. Her bail (cash or bail bond) stands at $750,000 as of early this morning. Her charges include Conspiracy Murder, Attempted Murder, and Battery with a Deadly Weapon (among others). She remains behind bars at the Clark County Detention Center.
