Sadly, Benjamin Paul Frazier, a convicted felon, had no business carrying a firearm in any respect--concealed or otherwise. Court records show an entry that the defendant was in a "medically induced coma" from injuries sustained in the incident and had been booked at the county jail "in absentia" and just physically transported there this past Sunday. Online court records show Frazier has retained attorney Robert Beckett, and he has a preliminary hearing scheduled for December 13, 2013 at 9am in the Las Vegas Justice Court. We willl keep you updated with any bail or bail bond amount changes in Benjamin Frazier's murder case.
The man accused of shooting and murdering 40 year old Kenneth Brown outside of Drai's nightclub at Bally's Las Vegas Hotel & Casino on October 21st is still being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas. Benjamin Paul Frazier, age 41, just had his first hearing yesterday in the Las Vegas Justice Court where the judge saw him unworthy of having a bail amount set in court. He is accused of first degree murder, two counts of attempted murder, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit (by a prohibited person). Frazier had a 1997 felony conviction of assault with a deadly weapon prior to this crime. The defendant allegedly confronted nightclub management about getting a $30 covercharge refund before the shooting erupted. A nightclub manager and security officer were wounded by gunfire but survived. Kenneth Brown, reportedly a heroic "good samaritan" was killed tragically however. Without regarding his own safety witnesses say he attempted to thwart the shooter and subdue him. He was shot in the process.

This week coming up will mark 148 wonderful years that Nevada has become a member state of this wonderful United States of America. On October 31, 1865 our state became "battle born" into the union. It is odd that the day happens to also be the same day as Halloween is celebrated. For a strange reason, we don't celebrate the holiday on it's actual day next Thurs. Our legislature decided to adopt the observed holiday on the last Friday of October. Sadly for Las Vegas school students it would have been great to have the day after Halloween (November 1, 2013) to be off of school to nurse the candy hangovers!
As a side note, please be careful this holiday weekend. We're going to have a lot of visitors in town this weekend coincidentally celebrating the "Life is Beautiful" festival in downtown Las Vegas. Mayor Goodman indicated there are already 60,000+ preregistered participants. I am certain police are going to be out in force this holiday weekend enforcing DUI laws and keeping the peace. Bail bonds companies in Las Vegas will no doubt be busy and on call. Our bail bonds office will be on standby 24 hours a day to answer bail questions, give free bail info, and obviously bail loved ones out of jail for you. The 48 year old Southern California Ex Convict accused of raping a 13 year old Woodbury Middle School student is facing more sinister accusations. Richard Martin Schlacta was arrested in late August after attacking the girl while she was on her way to school in the morning. His next hearing for those charges of kidnapping and child sexual assault is on November 21st, and he still faces the possibility of life in prison in that case.
Schlacta has now been ordered to isolation by a judge for allegedly conspiring with a fellow inmate to murder the little girl. The family members reportedly received a tip from an inmate somehow. It is unclear if the inmate Schlacta attempted to conspire with was the same informant. Schlacta's criminal defense attorney, Mace Yampolsky was surprised at the new allegations but still plans on representing his client, even if new charges are added. Clark County Detention Center online records still show Schlacta's bail amount at one million dollars cash or bail bond. That amount is sure to increase in the Las Vegas Justice Court should the D.A. add murder conspiracy charges, and it is my hope they are added immediately. This felon is an immediate threat to all and likely should not see freedom in any facet. Let's all pray for justice and healing for all victims in this. At around 1am this past Wednesday a young woman and man were needlessly killed by a convicted drunk driver near Paradise and Desert Inn Road. Twenty one year old, Jeanina Esser and an unidentified man were in a truck that flipped over, hit a tree, and landed on its side when they were killed in a vehicle accident caused by Hans Bludau. Hans was just convicted in June of DUI after pleading "no contest" to the 2012 case. Reports show that these were the 18th and 19th vehicle fatalities in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
Critics argue, myself included, that more can be done to stop, discourage, and deter the deadly crime of driving under the influence. A spokesperson from Stop DUI suggests an alcohol-detecting breath ignition device could have been ordered installed by the court. It is my contention that there is not enough done in the justice system to deter this behavior. Common sense (and my own past reckless, sinful drinking behavior) would dictate that even though 24 year old Hans Bludau has only 1 prior DUI conviction, he has not only driven drunk one prior time before he killed these two human beings. It is not uncommon for 20 somethings to drive dozens of times while drunk before they even make contact with a police officer. Then if they happen to get arrested, they will usually have a lawyer represent them and get the offense knocked down to a reckless driving incident. Then it's off to drunk driving again. Meanwhile, the county jail is all too eager to let the "First-time" DUI offender loose for free without even posting cash bail or a bail bond. Heck, the cop that pulls them over may even give a sober person the opportunity to drive the car home and save the offender 200 bucks on towing. Where is the "sting" for getting caught? How does the system not just embolden this criminal? After searching the Las Vegas Justice Court records, we found no indication that Bludau ever posted cash bail or had to even pay for a bail bond to be released. Records indicate he was "OR'd" or released on his own recognizance without needing to pay a single cent. Try not to take police and court propaganda too seriously. They act as if there is this zero tolerance, hardline stance to put an end to drunk driving at times (coincidentally when the public is outraged at killings like this), but then engages in wrist-slapping tactics every other day of the year. Who do you think actually pays the overhead when this drunk drivers get arrested? Not the drunk driver. The court doesn't even collect the 40-50 dollar filing fee for the person's bail when they cut them loose for free. Remember that every time a Sheriff or politician begs you for more tax money. Clark County Detention Center records now show Hans Bludau is in custody without bail (probably because of the negative publicity on his case) and is awaiting a 72 hour hearing scheduled for this morning. We will keep you updated with new information and if an opportunity to bail out is in his future. According to a report by an outfit called "Crime in the United States," my beloved state of Nevada ranks behind only Tennessee as the state with the highest proportional incidence of violent crime. The report shows that there are 600 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people in the state.
Incidentally, Nevada rates poorly in terms of poverty (16%) and highschool graduation success. According to a report done by me however, Nevada ranks #1 on the "Absoltely Awesome, Awesomeness" scale and #2 for "best state slogan state and/or license plate motto state." Saying, "battle-born" is only a fraction less cool than New Mexico's "land of enchantment" motto. New York's unofficial tag line of "Put down the 32 ounce soda fatty" comes in at #3 with California's "We tax whatever we want because our beaches rock" slogan rounding out the top 4. A woman was stabbed Thursday night at around 9:30pm at the Sportsman Royal Manor in Las Vegas. The temporary housing community is located near the corner of Boulder Highway and Tropicana. The victim was reportedly stabbed twice and is in critical condition.
No motive has been released and neither have specific circumstances surrounding the crime been disclosed. Authorities have not speculated on a motive for the stabbing or even a description of the suspect. It is assumed then that the suspect is at large, so perhaps anyone with info on this horrible crime should contact The Metropolitan Police Department asap. We are praying for the female victim's complete recovery. |
