Hope for Prisoners addresses the lack of programming and services for offenders who are in critical need of help to effectively relocate to their home community and, most importantly, to receive the educational, employment, personal, social, and emotional support that is necessary to reduce the likelihood of their returning to prison.
Hope for Prisoners, conducts an intensive prevocational/life skills training course in the initial phase of participants enrolling in the program. Each participant is given training in the following areas:
- · Life Skills Training-Life skills training covers practical topics including: Money Management, Food and Nutrition, Housing, Grooming and Personal Hygiene, Parenting/Family Relationships, and Conflict Resolution.
- · Work Readiness Skills Training-All participants complete an entry level assessment to gauge strength and weaknesses and identify work/career interests and aptitudes. Information is provided on employment and long term career opportunities available in Southern Nevada. Customer Service, Leadership Skills and Developing a Winning Attitude are also covered.
- · Becoming Employable-Participants learn basic employability skills such as job interviewing, preparing a resume; understanding expected workplace conduct (punctuality, drug testing, working under a supervisor, etc.) workplace confidentiality; explaining past experiences; and other issues to better understand the world of work and successfully secure employment.
- · Job Development Opportunities-The program assists participants to find appropriate job placements and provides following up services to ensure that gainful employment is maintained. Program participants have on-going opportunities for mentoring, counseling, and group support counseling to ensure continued success in community reentry.
The pre-vocational training provided by Hope for Prisoners, is taught by a highly sought-after team of instructors who are leaders in their respective fields of expertise.
